SMW 4-Player

This is a hack of Super Mario World that allows 3- and 4-player games. This is just an extension of the players-take-turns mode of gameplay, not 4 players simultaneously. Players 1 & 3 share the first controller, and players 2 & 4 share the second controller. If you have a 5-way multitap, you can plug it into the 2nd controller port to allow each player to have their own controller. You can download the hack (V1.0) here.

Bugs

This hack is now functionally complete. Here are the known bugs in the current version (V1.0):

• Windowing effects (message box, submap transition, save box), can sometimes spaz out the screen for a few frames.
• Player's sprites on the overworld can be frozen in a weird state when it is not their turn.
• The level name does not appear when first playing on a file.

Another caveat is that the entire life swapping mechanic is gone. If a player gets a game over they are permenently dead until the game is reset. I may consider implementing a more complex version of the original mechanic, but for now, just be very careful and go grind a bunch of lives. ;)
